You will be embarrassed in a park or a market
A populated street or a pedestrian bridge
by an innocent fair girl of very young age
begging for alms, clutching on your wrist.
She would follow you with all desperation
while you think of a decision –
To dip your hands in your pocket
or to claim your wrist with a fist.
Your mind would later sit to reason –
That girl parades street in all seasons
with her dirty skin; curly, dirty and unoiled hair
and her small legs following strangers everywhere.
Tears would flow in your solitude
of a shattered dream you saw by the roadside
and wonder how she lives through the tides
Supposed jewel in Niger striving in Naija adversities.
Niger girl on Naija Street
Sad, what poverty has done to Africa.
