Mogadishu: On Wednesday 21st My, 2019, three Somali officials landed back Mogadishu after stopping by the Kenyan official on their arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport [JKIA], according to state official news agency it is told that government officials with diplomatic passports didn’t get permission to intervene the country without visa.
Reports revealed that they were told to go back to Mogadishu and pass through Kenyan Embassy for visa approval before coming back to Nairobi.
One of the official from Nairobi [who requested not to disclose his name] said, “They know the rules and they have not changed.”
It is reported that on May 19th, 2019 Monday evening three Somali officials [Deputy Minister of water and Energy Osman Liban and Senators Illyas Ali Hassan and Zamzam Dahir] with ambassadorial passports were clogged at the International Airport, which seems to be mounting between Kenya and its nearby countries.
Officials stated in interview that they spent their night on an airport.
Mr. Liban said, “I was informed to travel to Kenya where I have to attend the launch of the EU Trust Fund for African program which was opened on Tuesday at Nairobi.”
“The name of the program was “Collaboration in Cross Border Areas of the Horn of Africa”.
“An event was conducted by the Foreign Affair Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma who was going to address delegates on Tuesday afternoon,” he added, “Dr Juma was set to address the media on the issue and other matters at her office.”
A Somali based radio station Dalsan FM identified the government officials and said that the official delegation was stopped purposely on the airport showed that state Kenyan official were not aware of their arrival. However, one of the Somalis ministers [who have European nationality] was allowed into the country.
Furthermore, Minister of Planning Gamal Hassan, President Farmaaajo’s National Advisor Abdi Said and Health Minister Fawzita Abikar were also allowed to enter due to having an access to European and Canadian Nationality.
Prior two weeks, Kenya ordered all flights initiating from Somalia must pass through Wajir for security checks.
It should be acknowledged that Kenyan are growing their companies in Somalia calmly with their nationalities and are not stopped by anybody.
In February, 2019 Kenya declared Somalia as a competitor according to oil and gas obstruction from Indian Ocean. President Uhuru Kenyatti chaired a meeting to resolve the dispute between Somalia and Kenya for safety measures.
